About the Role
The Senior Accountant position at Ubuntu Movers is a pivotal role that ensures the financial integrity and operational efficiency of the company’s accounting functions. This position is crucial as it not only supports the logistics operations of the organization but also provides essential financial insights that aid in strategic decision-making. In the initial months, the Senior Accountant will familiarize themselves with current accounting processes, oversee the transition of financial reporting methods, and establish strong relationships with both internal teams and external auditors. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review comprehensive monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring they reflect the true financial position of the company.
- Maintain and oversee the accuracy of general ledger accounts, ensuring that all transactions are properly posted in a timely manner.
- Manage the accounts payable and receivable processes, which includes overseeing invoicing, collections, and ensuring timely supplier payments.
- Monitor and analyze cash flow trends, execute bank reconciliations, and oversee daily financial transactions to maintain liquidity.
- Ensure compliance with all Ugandan tax laws, including Value Added Tax (VAT), Pay As You Earn (PAYE), and other statutory filings, to mitigate any legal risks.
- Coordinate audits by preparing necessary documentation and liaising effectively with external auditors and regulatory bodies to streamline the audit process.
- Support the budgeting and forecasting processes, particularly focusing on cost control measures for fleet management, fuel, and operational expenses.
- Implement and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accountability.
- Supervise and mentor junior accounting staff, providing guidance and support to help them develop their skills and careers.
- Assist management with financial analysis and provide insights for operational cost optimization to enhance overall profitability.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is essential for this role.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance roles, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
- Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems, such as QuickBooks or SAP, is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of Ugandan tax laws and financial regulations to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
- Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret complex financial data effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with various stakeholders.
