About the Role
The UX Designer for Infrastructure at Canonical plays a vital role in shaping the tools and experiences used by organizations to build and manage their cloud infrastructures. This position is essential as it focuses on transforming complex open-source software into intuitive products that enhance enterprise IT capabilities. In the initial months, you will collaborate with engineering teams and product managers, engaging in user research and design processes to create user-centered designs. You will also immerse yourself in Canonical’s design culture, contributing to the evolution of design systems that promote consistency and usability across varied platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop user-friendly tools that empower users to create personalized cloud environments using platforms such as MAAS, LXD, MicroCloud, and Canonical Kubernetes.
- Collaborate closely with product managers and engineers to envision and implement the future of self-sovereign cloud infrastructures.
- Conduct user research and apply design heuristics to support and enhance the usability of complex products.
- Contribute to the evolution of design systems that ensure consistency and efficiency across various product offerings.
- Maintain awareness of the broader implications of your design work and navigate the interconnected constraints that arise in collaborative environments.
- Participate in working groups to support Canonical’s horizontal design efforts, ensuring cohesive communication and strategy across teams.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A strong academic background, showcasing exceptional performance in both high school and university.
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in User Experience, Design, or a relevant STEM field, or a compelling story that demonstrates an alternative career path.
- A genuine enthusiasm for developing innovative solutions and hands-on experience with real hardware.
- Proficient understanding of user experience principles, technology trends, and design methodologies.
- A commitment to continuous learning, demonstrating curiosity, flexibility, and a scientific approach to problem-solving.
