About the Role
The Manager of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) at the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) plays a critical role in enhancing the mental well-being of staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries. This position is vital for integrating MHPSS services into all URCS programs, especially during emergencies, to ensure comprehensive support is provided. In the first few months, you will focus on familiarizing yourself with existing programs, engaging with stakeholders, and leading strategic planning initiatives. This role requires a proactive approach to advocacy, program management, and collaboration with various partners, ensuring that mental health considerations are embedded in all operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
- You will lead the dissemination of the URCS MHPSS strategy to all relevant stakeholders, ensuring that every team member understands and aligns with the vision.
- Your role involves developing implementation guidelines for the MHPSS strategy, which will serve as a roadmap for all related activities.
- It is essential to ensure that MHPSS services are planned and adequately budgeted for within every URCS program, especially during annual and quarterly work plan developments.
- You will supervise the execution of MHPSS activities, guaranteeing conformity with both national and international standards, as well as best practices in the field.
- Supporting program staff will be a key task, where you will facilitate the smooth implementation of MHPSS activities, tracking work plans and ensuring timely completion of tasks.
- You will organize and facilitate workshops aimed at compiling lessons learned and best practices, thereby improving future programming efforts.
- Your communication skills will be utilized as you work with the communication team to ensure high-quality internal and external dissemination of URCS MHPSS work and messages.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree in psychology, social work, or a related field is essential for this role, providing foundational knowledge in mental health and psychosocial support.
- At least 5 years of progressive experience in mental health program management or related areas is required, demonstrating your capability to handle complex projects.
- Strong leadership skills are necessary, as you will be responsible for guiding and supporting a team of professionals and volunteers.
- Experience in resource mobilization and proposal writing is crucial, enabling you to secure funding and support for MHPSS initiatives.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will help you to effectively engage with various stakeholders and advocate for mental health interventions.
