About the Role

Marriott Uganda is on the lookout for a dedicated Guest Event Expert to enhance their banquets team in Kampala. This role plays a pivotal part in delivering outstanding guest experiences during various events, from weddings to corporate conferences. As a Guest Event Expert, you will be responsible for ensuring that every detail is meticulously executed, from the initial setup to the final breakdown, while upholding the highest standards of service excellence. Your contributions will be vital in creating unforgettable moments for guests, as your work directly influences guest satisfaction and the overall success of events hosted at the property. In your first few months, you will receive training in Marriott’s service protocols and gain hands-on experience working alongside the culinary and event teams.

Key Responsibilities

• You will be tasked with setting up banquet rooms according to client specifications, ensuring that tables, chairs, linens, and audiovisual equipment are arranged perfectly to meet event needs.
• After events conclude, you will efficiently break down spaces while ensuring that all equipment is properly stored and that the areas are left clean and organized.
• Transporting supplies and equipment between storage areas and event venues will be a key responsibility, and you will be expected to use proper lifting techniques to ensure safety.
• Upon guest arrival, you will greet them professionally and assist with seating arrangements or fulfill any special requests they may have throughout the event.
• Your role will also involve taking accurate food and beverage orders, relaying this information to the kitchen and bar staff promptly to ensure timely service.
• During events, you will be vigilant in monitoring spaces to anticipate guest needs, providing proactive service to enhance their experience.
• You will handle payment processing for additional services and manage cash transactions in accordance with hotel policies and procedures.
• Collaboration with the culinary team is essential, as you will ensure that courses are delivered on time and that dietary requirements are accommodated.
• Maintaining cleanliness and organization in work areas, including side stations and storage rooms, will be part of your daily duties.
• Lastly, you must adhere to all safety protocols when moving equipment or handling materials that may pose hazards.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is necessary for consideration for this role.
• While less than one year of related work experience in hospitality, events, or customer service is acceptable, a background in these areas is beneficial.
• The ability to stand, walk, or move continuously for extended periods during shifts is essential for success in this role.
• You should be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and placing objects weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance.
• Maintaining a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the Marriott brand is a must.
• Basic English communication skills are required to interact effectively with guests and team members.
• Previous experience in hotel banquets, catering, or restaurant service is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Familiarity with point-of-sale systems used for food and beverage ordering will be considered a plus.
