About the Role

The HSQE Advisor position at Glanua plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of health, safety, quality, and environmental compliance within the organization. This role is essential to ensure that all operations adhere to legislative and regulatory standards while promoting a proactive safety mindset among staff and contractors. In the first few months, you will work closely with site teams and operational managers to assess current HSQE practices, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies that enhance performance. Regular site visits will provide you with the opportunity to engage with employees, understand their challenges, and offer practical solutions to promote safe working conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for promoting a robust Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSQE) culture across all operations at Glanua, Marches Biogas, and Aqua Operations.
  • Your role will include acting as a primary resource for HSQE-related inquiries, offering actionable advice and guidance to managers, employees, and contractors to enhance compliance.
  • Supporting the implementation and continual improvement of the HSQE Management System will be a significant part of your job, ensuring it meets all necessary standards.
  • You will conduct regular site inspections and audits, producing comprehensive reports that detail compliance levels and corrective actions needed to address any deficiencies.
  • Monitoring compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards across all group operations will be essential to uphold quality and safety benchmarks.
  • Your responsibilities will also include facilitating the investigation of incidents and near misses, identifying root causes, and ensuring that corrective actions are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining accurate HSQE records and documentation will be vital for ensuring transparency and accountability within the organization.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or Engineering is typically required for this role.
  • At least 3-5 years of experience in a similar HSQE role, preferably within the construction or engineering sectors, is expected.
  • You should have a thorough understanding of health, safety, quality, and environmental legislation applicable in Uganda and the UK.
  • Strong communication skills are necessary, as you will need to convey complex HSQE information clearly to a diverse audience.
  • Experience in conducting audits and risk assessments, along with the ability to develop effective training programs, will be crucial to your success in this role.
