Project Director – PlayMatters

About the Role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a Project Director for the PlayMatters initiative, a transformative project aimed at enhancing educational opportunities for refugee and host community children across Uganda, South Sudan, and Ethiopia. This role is crucial in ensuring that the project continues to deliver impactful programming that fosters learning and development during its third phase. In the initial months, the Project Director will focus on assessing current project implementations, engaging with local stakeholders, and refining strategies to optimize educational outcomes. By leading a dedicated team, you will play a vital part in helping children affected by crisis regain a sense of normalcy through quality education.

Key Responsibilities

• The Project Director will oversee the strategic planning and execution of the PlayMatters initiative, ensuring alignment with IRC’s broader mission and objectives.
• You will lead a multidisciplinary team, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality program implementation and adherence to project timelines.
• The role involves regular monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
• Building and maintaining relationships with local government bodies, community organizations, and other stakeholders is essential to facilitate program success and sustainability.
• You will be responsible for budget management, ensuring that financial resources are allocated effectively and in compliance with donor regulations.
• Regular reporting on project progress, challenges, and successes to both internal and external stakeholders will be a key aspect of your responsibilities.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A master’s degree in Education, International Development, or a related field is typically required for this position.
• At least 8 years of experience in project management within the education sector, particularly in humanitarian contexts, is preferred.
• Strong leadership skills with a proven track record of managing diverse teams and fostering collaborative work environments.
• Experience in budget management and familiarity with donor compliance regulations will be essential for this role.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively engage with various stakeholders, including community members and government officials.
