About the Role
ZTE Uganda is actively seeking a skilled Data Center Engineer to enhance their data center operations in Kampala. This role is vital for the management and optimization of the infrastructure that supports crucial IT services and business processes. In the first few months, you will engage in hands-on maintenance and monitoring of systems, ensuring high availability and reliability. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to uphold industry standards and operational excellence in a 24/7 environment, playing a key role in incident resolution and system performance enhancement.
Key Responsibilities
- You will monitor and maintain critical data center infrastructure, ensuring maximum system uptime and availability through proactive management strategies.
- Your responsibilities will include managing power infrastructure such as generators, UPS systems, rectifiers, and transformers to ensure continuous power supply.
- You will oversee cooling infrastructure by maintaining HVAC systems, CRAC units, and environmental control systems essential for optimal server performance.
- As part of your role, you will troubleshoot and maintain server hardware components, including processors and storage devices, ensuring they operate efficiently.
- Your position will require you to support the installation and maintenance of fiber-optic and copper cabling infrastructure, enhancing data transmission capabilities.
- You will utilize advanced monitoring tools to identify and resolve infrastructure issues promptly, ensuring minimal disruption to services.
- Another key aspect of your role will be to conduct root cause analysis on incidents to implement preventive measures and enhance service reliability.
- Ensuring compliance with operational standards, safety regulations, and security protocols will be a critical part of your daily activities.
- You will maintain detailed records of change management, asset information, and configuration documentation for accountability and future reference.
- Additionally, you will produce operational reports and analyses on infrastructure performance to guide strategic improvements.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is typically required for this role.
- You should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in data center operations or a similar IT infrastructure role.
- Hands-on experience with mission-critical infrastructure, including power and cooling systems, is essential for success in this position.
- Strong analytical skills are necessary for troubleshooting and optimizing data center operations effectively.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools and management software that track infrastructure performance is highly desirable.
