About the Role

Posta Uganda is seeking two qualified individuals to fill the role of Post Bus Driver, a vital position within the organization dedicated to ensuring the efficient and safe transport of mail and passengers throughout Kampala and its surrounding areas. This role is crucial for maintaining the integrity and reliability of postal services, which are essential for community connectivity. In the initial months, drivers will familiarize themselves with designated routes, adhere to operational protocols, and engage with passengers, building a rapport that reflects the values of Posta Uganda. By joining a trustworthy government institution, successful candidates will play a key role in supporting national infrastructure and public service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate the Post Bus along assigned routes, strictly adhering to all traffic regulations and postal service guidelines to ensure the safety of both passengers and mail.
  • Perform thorough pre-trip inspections of the vehicle, which includes checking vital components such as oil levels, fuel, tire conditions, lights, brakes, and safety equipment before beginning each shift.
  • Maintain detailed logs of mileage, fuel usage, journey durations, and any incidents or technical issues that arise during operations, ensuring accurate and transparent records.
  • Safeguard the security and confidentiality of all mail items, while also assisting passengers with special needs, including the elderly and those with disabilities, to promote an inclusive travel experience.
  • Ensure the cleanliness and security of the bus after each shift, collaborating with the conductor to address any broker or authority matters as required.
  • Complete and submit the Daily Bus Return form to the supervisor immediately upon returning to headquarters, ensuring compliance with reporting procedures.
  • Respond efficiently to emergencies by providing first aid or coordinating assistance while prioritizing the safety and well-being of all passengers on board.
  • Adhere to scheduled timetables rigorously, guaranteeing timely delivery of mail and efficient transport for all passengers across assigned routes.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Possess a valid Ugandan driver’s license with the appropriate classes CE, D, D1, DIE, or DE, allowing for the operation of heavy passenger vehicles.
  • Hold a current passenger bus driver’s badge issued by the Ministry of Works and Transport, demonstrating compliance with national transportation regulations.
  • Have a minimum of two years of verifiable experience in driving buses or similar large commercial vehicles, showcasing a solid background in this field.
  • Maintain a clean driving record with no significant traffic violations or accidents within the past three years to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Be proficient in reading, writing, and communicating effectively in English, which is essential for completing logs and engaging with passengers and officials alike.
  • Pass a medical examination confirming the candidate’s fitness to operate commercial passenger vehicles safely and effectively.
