About the Role
The Safety Manager role at Hirematic Talent Solutions is a pivotal position that focuses on overseeing Health & Safety operations for a large-scale construction project in Kampala, Uganda. This position is crucial as it ensures that all safety protocols are followed, thereby safeguarding the workforce and minimizing risks associated with construction activities. In the first few months, the successful candidate will develop and implement a comprehensive Health & Safety Management System, while also conducting site inspections and audits. As the project unfolds, you’ll work closely with various teams to cultivate a culture of safety and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously monitor the project’s Health & Safety Management System to ensure it meets all regulatory and company standards.
- Conduct regular site safety inspections and audits, identifying potential hazards and ensuring compliance with local and international HSE regulations.
- Lead toolbox talks and safety inductions, effectively communicating safety protocols and best practices to site personnel.
- Investigate incidents and near misses, documenting findings and implementing corrective and preventive actions to enhance workplace safety.
- Monitor contractor compliance with safety procedures, ensuring that all subcontractors adhere to established health and safety guidelines.
- Prepare and present daily, weekly, and monthly HSE reports to project management and stakeholders, detailing safety performance and improvement areas.
- Coordinate emergency response plans and conduct evacuation drills, ensuring that all team members are prepared for unforeseen events.
- Ensure the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) across the site and promote adherence to safe work practices among all team members.
- Liaise with project management, consultants, and client representatives regarding all Health & Safety matters to ensure consistent communication and expectations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field is required for this role.
- The candidate must possess the NEBOSH International General Certificate, which is essential for ensuring a high standard of safety management.
- Experience of 15-18 years in Health & Safety, particularly within large construction or infrastructure projects, is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction safety standards, risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigation techniques is necessary.
- Excellent communication skills and leadership abilities are required to effectively manage safety protocols and engage with site teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HSE reporting tools is necessary to maintain accurate safety documentation and reporting.
