About the Role

The Blue Haven Initiative is excited to welcome a Civics Associate to its dedicated Civics team. This role is essential as it supports the organization’s mission to enhance civic engagement and democratic processes in Uganda. In the initial months, the Civics Associate will immerse themselves in various projects, conducting research, and managing relationships with key stakeholders. The position is designed for individuals who are not only ambitious but also ready to take ownership of significant projects, allowing them to develop their skills in policy and advocacy while contributing to meaningful societal change.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Civics Associate will take charge of specific workstreams, ensuring that project goals are clearly defined and stakeholders are effectively mapped and engaged throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Conduct in-depth research to inform policy initiatives and facilitate stakeholder outreach, forming the backbone of new and ongoing projects.
  • Collaborate with both team members and the principal to identify potential new project opportunities that align with the Civics team’s mission.
  • Over time, the Associate will have the opportunity to lead higher-level project initiatives, benefiting from mentorship provided by experienced senior staff.
  • Draft impactful and persuasive communication materials, including talking points, presentations, and advocacy documents for meetings with lawmakers and funders.
  • Manage the fundraising and development process by researching potential funding opportunities and preparing necessary materials to support the Civics team’s initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Applicants should possess 2 to 6 years of relevant experience in policy, advocacy, or a related nonprofit or philanthropic setting.
  • Exceptional writing skills are essential, with a proven ability to create clear and persuasive documents aimed at external audiences.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a proactive and ambitious nature, showcasing a history of taking initiative and seeing projects through to completion.
  • Experience in managing relationships with key stakeholders, including lawmakers and civic organizations, is highly valued.
  • A background in using CRM systems for relationship management will be beneficial to support the team’s operational needs.
