About the Role
The Assistant Accountant position at East African Piling Company Ltd. is a crucial entry-level role within a dynamic finance team dedicated to supporting geotechnical solutions across East Africa. This role is essential for ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards, which ultimately contributes to the company’s reputation for delivering projects on time and within budget. In the first few months, you will receive hands-on training in daily accounting operations, familiarize yourself with financial software, and learn the intricacies of the company’s financial documentation process. You will also collaborate closely with senior accountants and other team members, providing you with a solid foundation in accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Accountant in overseeing financial operations during their absence, ensuring continuity and consistency in accounting processes.
- Process supplier invoices and prepare payment vouchers to facilitate timely payments and maintain positive supplier relationships.
- Prepare cheque payments, electronic funds transfers, and bank transfer schedules to manage the company’s cash flow effectively.
- Maintain and reconcile petty cash daily, ensuring accurate tracking of small expenses and prompt reimbursement requests.
- Record all daily accounting transactions into QuickBooks, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in financial reporting.
- Assist in monthly bank reconciliations, identifying discrepancies, and ensuring that all accounts are balanced and accurate.
- Prepare supplier reconciliations to ensure that accounts payable records are up-to-date and accurate.
- Support the preparation of VAT schedules and verify withholding tax schedules to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is essential to ensure a foundational understanding of financial principles.
- Previous experience in an accounting role, even if internship-based, is highly valued and will facilitate a smoother transition into this position.
- Proficiency in accounting software, particularly QuickBooks, is required to effectively manage financial transactions and reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are crucial for maintaining accurate financial records and documentation.
- Good communication skills are essential for collaborating with team members and internal stakeholders effectively.
