About the Role

The Accounts Payable Assistant at Britam is essential for ensuring the smooth operation of the company’s financial processes. This role is pivotal in managing day-to-day accounts payable activities, making it a critical position for maintaining financial integrity and compliance. In the first few months, the successful candidate will familiarize themselves with internal systems, processes, and compliance requirements while contributing to timely disbursements and reconciliations. This position offers an opportunity to work closely with the finance team and gain valuable insights into financial reporting and tax compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Accounts Payable Assistant will accurately process and disburse accounts payable transactions, ensuring all payments are properly authorized and supported by necessary documentation.
  • They will prepare and submit statutory tax filings and payments, ensuring compliance with Uganda tax laws while meeting all regulatory deadlines.
  • Maintaining accurate records of company collections is a key responsibility, which includes timely recording in the general ledger to ensure financial accuracy.
  • Regular reconciliations of medical accounting records will be performed, alongside prompt resolution of any discrepancies that arise.
  • The role involves processing and reconciling intercompany transactions, ensuring alignment with Group reporting requirements and standards.
  • Maintaining the fixed assets register, including monitoring additions, disposals, and depreciation, is essential, as is supporting periodic physical verification of assets.
  • Regular bank reconciliations will be conducted across various company accounts, with the responsibility of investigating and resolving any reconciling items promptly.
  • The assistant will support month-end and year-end closing processes by performing general ledger reconciliations to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • In addition, they will contribute to the preparation of IFRS-compliant financial reports and schedules for management and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing backup support to the Finance Reporting Assistant and cooperation with the wider finance team will also be part of their duties, along with any other tasks assigned by the Financial Accountant.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required to ensure a solid educational foundation in financial principles.
  • At least 2 years of experience in accounts payable or a similar finance role, giving the candidate a practical understanding of the financial landscape.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel is essential for effective data management and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills are necessary for performing reconciliations and resolving discrepancies efficiently.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills will be critical in maintaining accuracy in financial transactions and records.
  • Good communication skills are required to liaise with internal teams and external auditors, ensuring smooth workflow and compliance.
