About the Role

The Finance Officer position at International Lifeline Fund is a critical role that directly supports humanitarian efforts in Moroto, Uganda. This position is essential for maintaining financial integrity and ensuring operational efficiency within programs that aim to provide clean water and energy access to underserved communities. In your initial months, you will familiarize yourself with the organization’s financial systems, collaborate closely with the Senior Finance Officer, and engage with program teams to understand the financial needs of various projects. Your contributions will not only aid in effective financial management but also enhance the impact of life-changing initiatives in the Karamoja region.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will analyze financial data and create comprehensive reports to assist senior management and field teams in making informed program decisions.
  • Summarizing monthly financial results, you will effectively communicate performance metrics to stakeholders across the organization, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Your role will involve assisting in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts, providing critical financial insights for country office operations and project activities.
  • It will be your responsibility to meticulously review payment documentation and ensure that all vendor payments are processed correctly and with proper authorization.
  • You will maintain organized financial filing systems, ensuring that all transactions and supporting documents are recorded chronologically for easy access and auditing.
  • Following up on outstanding advances related to travel, purchases, and activities will be part of your duties to guarantee timely accountability and liquidation of funds.
  • Monitoring income streams will be essential, ensuring that all funds received are properly banked, recorded, and reconciled in a timely manner.
  • You will also ensure the availability of standardized finance forms and templates, promoting consistent usage across all departments within the organization.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution is essential for this role.
  • Prospective candidates should have a minimum of two years of progressive experience in financial management, ideally within an NGO or humanitarian context.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and advanced skills in MS Excel are required for effective financial analysis and reporting.
  • A strong understanding of financial procedures, internal controls, and compliance requirements specific to nonprofit organizations is crucial for success in this role.
  • Excellent analytical abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work under pressure to meet deadlines are vital soft skills for this position.
  • Experience working in the Karamoja region or similar challenging environments in Uganda is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with donor financial regulations, including those from USAID, EU, or UN funding requirements, will be an added advantage.
