About the Role

The Co-Head of Engineering at Oakwell plays a crucial role in leading the engineering practice, ensuring the highest standards of technical rigor and strategic direction. This position is vital for establishing long-term relationships with major clients, including hospitals and universities, fostering collaborations that drive infrastructure and sustainability initiatives. In the initial months, the Co-Head will engage with senior engineers, assess existing practices, and begin shaping a vision for the future of engineering within the firm. This role is designed for an experienced leader who is ready to invest in both the business and its people, ultimately enhancing Oakwell’s reputation in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-lead the engineering practice alongside existing leadership, setting the technical strategy and establishing staffing protocols across mechanical, electrical, and energy engineering disciplines.
  • Act as a vesting co-owner of the firm, taking accountability for the practice’s profitability and growth while being personally invested in Oakwell’s reputation and team development.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop senior engineers and discipline leads, focusing on building a strong technical team and ensuring a succession plan is in place.
  • Serve as the primary technical liaison for Oakwell’s largest clients, directly engaging with C-suite and facilities leadership to foster trust and collaboration.
  • Design multi-decade infrastructure renewal and decarbonization strategies that align with client missions, financial realities, and campus master plans.
  • Oversee the firm’s quality assurance and quality control program, ensuring all engineering outputs meet Oakwell’s high technical standards before they are published.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or a related engineering field is essential for this position.
  • Extensive experience in engineering leadership roles, particularly in managing teams and projects within the healthcare or educational sectors.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate senior-level relationships with major clients, showcasing strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing infrastructure and sustainability strategies, with a focus on long-term impact.
  • Strong technical background, with the capability to provide senior-level review and judgment on complex engineering projects.
