About the Role
The ICLA Officer position at NRC NORCAP Careers in Kampala plays a crucial role in implementing the Information, Counselling, and Legal Assistance (ICLA) program. This role is essential for ensuring that vulnerable populations, including refugees and internally displaced persons, receive necessary legal support and guidance. In the first few months, you will engage with local communities to understand their needs, train staff and partners, and ensure that project activities are executed in alignment with established policies and standards. Your work will directly impact the lives of beneficiaries by improving their access to vital information and services.
Key Responsibilities
- You will implement NRC’s ICLA program policy at the office level, ensuring that it is integrated into all program activities effectively.
- Your role includes training staff and partners on ICLA, providing them with the necessary knowledge and tools to assist beneficiaries adequately.
- You will produce data collection, reports, and analyses as required, ensuring that all information is accurate and useful for decision-making.
- As the focal person for needs assessment and beneficiary selection, you will ensure that the selection process is fair and transparent.
- Your oversight will guarantee smooth project cycles, including monitoring, verifying completion, and evaluating project outcomes.
- You will conduct information and counseling sessions for beneficiaries, helping them understand their rights and available services.
- You will establish and maintain excellent relationships with beneficiaries through regular visits, ensuring their needs are understood and met.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A degree in Law, Social Sciences, or a related field is essential to navigate the complexities of legal assistance.
- At least 3 years of experience in a similar role within an NGO or humanitarian context is preferred, showcasing your familiarity with ICLA principles.
- Strong understanding of national and international laws pertaining to refugees and displaced persons is necessary for effective advocacy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, as you will be interacting with diverse groups, including vulnerable populations and stakeholders.
- You should possess strong analytical skills to interpret data and produce insightful reports that guide program decisions and improvements.
