About the Role
The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) is seeking an Operations Security Specialist, a pivotal role in ensuring the safety and security of personnel, assets, and operations across its oil and gas projects. This position is vital for maintaining a secure environment as UNOC navigates the complexities of Uganda’s growing energy sector. In the first few months, the specialist will focus on establishing security protocols, building relationships with local communities, and collaborating with government agencies to mitigate risks. Additionally, the role offers the chance to contribute significantly to emergency preparedness and crisis management planning, ensuring that UNOC’s initiatives are executed safely and sustainably.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage comprehensive security programs for UNOC and its subsidiaries, ensuring that personnel and assets remain protected throughout various operations.
- Liaise regularly with government security forces to assess the security landscape, sharing intelligence and addressing operational concerns affecting UNOC sites.
- Engage with local institutions and communities on security issues to foster cooperative relationships and address any local concerns that may arise.
- Collaborate with the security organizations of joint venture partners and contractors to ensure a cohesive approach to site protection across all projects.
- Establish and maintain efficient security information systems that enhance UNOC’s readiness for emergency situations and facilitate prompt incident response.
- Conduct thorough security risk and vulnerability assessments for all existing and new assets, ensuring that all operational sites meet safety standards.
- Organize and supervise project and community intelligence networks to improve situational awareness, collaborating with stakeholders to enhance security measures.
- Investigate community grievances related to security concerns and ensure that findings are effectively incorporated into corporate security risk assessments and action plans.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, International Relations, or a closely related field from a recognized institution is essential.
- At least five years of progressive experience in security operations, risk management, or law enforcement, preferably within the oil, gas, or energy sectors.
- Proven expertise in conducting security risk assessments, developing security plans, and effectively liaising with government security agencies.
- A solid understanding of Uganda’s security landscape, including knowledge of local government structures and community dynamics is crucial.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to navigate and build relationships across various stakeholders.
