About the Role

The Regional Compliance Manager position at Welthungerhilfe (WHH) is pivotal in ensuring adherence to corporate compliance standards across several African nations, including Uganda. This role is essential as it safeguards the integrity of WHH’s operations by preventing fraud, managing conflicts of interest, and ensuring that sensitive information is handled appropriately. In the first few months, the successful candidate will immerse themselves in understanding WHH’s compliance policies, build relationships with regional compliance officers, and begin implementing comprehensive training programs. Key Responsibilities

  • You will oversee corporate compliance efforts across WHH’s Regional Directorate for East & Southern Africa, focusing on areas such as fraud prevention, conflict of interest management, and data protection.
  • Providing functional leadership means you will guide compliance staff in various country offices, ensuring that WHH’s global compliance policies are effectively implemented and adhered to.
  • Your role will involve enhancing WHH’s Corporate Compliance Management Program, ensuring that processes for prevention, detection, and response to compliance issues are robust and effective.
  • Training is a vital aspect of this position; you will develop and deliver compliance training to country office staff, empowering them to understand and implement compliance requirements effectively.
  • Monitoring and evaluating compliance practices will be part of your responsibilities, ensuring that all country programs align with WHH’s standards and regulatory requirements.
  • You will be responsible for addressing sensitive complaints and safeguarding issues, maintaining a work environment that prioritizes ethical standards and accountability.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in law, business administration, or a related field is essential, with a strong understanding of compliance frameworks.
  • Candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in compliance, risk management, or a related area in an NGO context, demonstrating a deep understanding of humanitarian principles.
  • Proficiency in compliance software and data management tools is necessary to effectively manage compliance processes and reporting.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are critical, as you will collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders across multiple countries.
  • Fluency in English is required, while knowledge of local languages relevant to the host countries will be an added advantage.
