About the Role
The Tax Manager position at TruStage is pivotal in ensuring compliance with tax laws while implementing effective tax planning strategies. As a remote role, it offers the flexibility to work from anywhere in Uganda while playing a key part in shaping the financial future for clients and the company. In the initial months, you will engage in complex tax research and collaborate with various stakeholders, gaining insights into both local and international tax regulations. This role is essential for maintaining financial integrity and helps in driving informed decision-making processes within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- You will conduct intricate tax research and data analysis to formulate and implement strategic tax planning initiatives that align with the company’s objectives.
- Your role will involve reviewing significant tax components of GAAP and statutory accounting to ensure compliance with tax accounting policies.
- Managing projects and processes within the Tax Department will be a key responsibility, ensuring that performance is timely, accurate, and complete.
- Regular interactions with external parties, which include the IRS, auditors, regulatory bodies, and vendors, will be part of your daily routine.
- You will oversee external resources, including consulting and outsourcing engagements, effectively managing these relationships for optimal results.
- Identifying potential control weaknesses within tax processes and proactively taking measures to address them will be crucial to your success in this role.
- Leading tax integration efforts on specific subjects or matters will enable you to influence and shape the future of tax processes within the organization.
Requirements & Qualifications
- An undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration is required, with equivalent experience being acceptable.
- Having a Master’s degree in Taxation, a JD in Taxation, or a professional designation such as CPA or CFA is essential for this role.
- A minimum of 9 years of experience in a corporate tax department or a national public accounting firm is expected, including experience with complex tax research and strategy development.
- Demonstrated ability to make informed, knowledge-based decisions and evaluate situations even with incomplete information is critical.
- Strong interpersonal skills are necessary, as you will need to advise and influence peers, senior tax leadership, and external stakeholders effectively.
