About the Role
The Technical Operator position at Diageo in Kampala plays a crucial role in the Supply Chain & Manufacturing function, where products are crafted and delivered to consumers. This role is vital for ensuring the smooth operation of packaging lines, which are essential for producing high-quality beverages. In the initial months, you will become acquainted with the various packaging machines, standard operating procedures, and safety protocols while collaborating with experienced colleagues. You will engage in hands-on operations, developing a deep understanding of the equipment and processes that underpin the company’s commitment to quality and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities
- You will operate various packaging line process machines according to manufacturer’s standard operating procedures, ensuring an Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) of 85% to meet quality standards.
- Scheduled preventive and corrective maintenance tasks will be carried out to maintain targeted plant reliability at approximately 95%, contributing to overall operational efficiency.
- Conduct basic quality checks through product testing, identifying and rectifying anomalies while recommending corrective actions to achieve a quality index of 98%.
- It is essential to maintain process and component waste below target levels, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- You will keep detailed process records as required by quality systems, ensuring compliance with company standards.
- Safety is paramount; therefore, you will rigorously adhere to safety requirements for yourself and others while operating machinery, aiming for a zero-harm environment.
- During your shifts, you will provide on-the-job training to interns, trainees, and new recruits, fostering a culture of learning and development.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A minimum of an ordinary diploma in electrical, mechanical, or instrumentation engineering is required for this role.
- Experience in engineering disciplines—mechanical, electrical, or instrumentation—is essential to effectively manage machinery operations.
- You should possess operational system support skills as defined in the Capability matrix, demonstrating your ability to manage complex systems.
- Continuous improvement experience is valuable, indicating your commitment to enhancing operational processes.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills are necessary, as you will collaborate with various teams including logistics and quality assurance.
