About the Role
The Warehouse Assistant plays a crucial role in the operational effectiveness of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) by managing the Core Relief Items (CRIs) warehouse. This position is essential for ensuring that humanitarian supplies are handled efficiently and reach those in need in a timely manner. In the first few months, the Warehouse Assistant will focus on learning the IRC’s supply chain processes, developing an understanding of inventory management, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. This role is not only about managing stock but also contributes significantly to the IRC’s mission of providing aid in crisis situations.
Key Responsibilities
- The Warehouse Assistant will be responsible for monitoring the security of the IRC’s storage facilities and ensuring the safety of supplies at all times.
- Upon receipt of Core Relief Items, the Assistant must verify the quantities against delivery notes, waybills, and purchase orders to ensure accuracy.
- Conducting thorough physical inspections of items for quality and damage is essential, ensuring that only suitable materials are stored and distributed.
- Proper stacking, labeling, and organization of CRIs following FIFO (First In, First Out) and FEFO (First Expired, First Out) principles are crucial for efficient warehouse operations.
- The Assistant must maintain cleanliness and safety protocols within the warehouse to create a secure working environment for all staff.
- Documentation is key; the Assistant will regularly update stock records and reconcile physical inventory with documentation, ensuring all records are accurate and up-to-date.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A minimum of a secondary school education is required, with additional training in logistics or supply chain management being highly advantageous.
- Previous experience in warehouse operations or inventory management is preferred, ideally within a humanitarian or non-profit context.
- Strong attention to detail is necessary to ensure accurate documentation and inventory tracking.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office, is essential for maintaining stock records and reports.
- Excellent communication skills are important for collaborating with team members and reporting discrepancies effectively.
