About the Role
The Assistant Manager position at Soul Farm is a pivotal role within the Organic Growers Alliance, aimed at promoting sustainable food production that aligns with environmental goals. This position is crucial for fostering a community-oriented approach to farming, where accessible, healthy food is prioritized. In your first few months, you will actively engage in both the practical aspects of farming and the management of operational processes, learning the ins and outs of Soul Farm’s mission and strategies. You’ll collaborate with a dedicated team, pushing the boundaries of agroecological farming while ensuring the business remains viable and impactful.
Key Responsibilities
- You will oversee the daily operations of the farm, ensuring that both crop production and distribution processes are efficient and effective.
- Engaging in hands-on activities, you will participate in planting, maintaining, and harvesting crops while simultaneously managing farm records and data.
- Your role will involve collaborating on marketing strategies to promote the farm’s organic produce to the community and local markets.
- You will be responsible for managing and training volunteers and interns, fostering a culture of learning and enthusiasm about sustainable agriculture.
- Conducting regular assessments of farm practices will be essential to identify areas for improvement and implement innovative solutions.
- You will work closely with the management team to develop long-term business strategies that align with the mission of organic farming and community support.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A strong passion for sustainable agriculture and environmental stewardship is essential for success in this role.
- Previous experience in agricultural operations or farm management is highly desirable, ideally spanning at least 2-3 years.
- You should possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in data management and familiarity with spreadsheet software is necessary for tracking farm productivity and financials.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required to collaborate effectively with team members and engage with the local community.
