About the Role

ZTE Uganda is on the lookout for a skilled Transmission Engineer to enhance its telecommunications team based in Kampala. This role is essential for the design, maintenance, and growth of the critical infrastructure that facilitates modern communication services across Uganda and beyond. The Transmission Engineer will play a pivotal role in ensuring that data is transmitted efficiently through advanced microwave, fiber optic, and IP-based systems. In the initial months, you will be expected to familiarize yourself with the existing network architecture and participate in high-impact projects aimed at improving communication reliability and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Your main task will be to design and plan transmission network solutions that are specifically tailored to meet Uganda’s unique terrain and infrastructure needs.
  • You will install, configure, and commission advanced transmission equipment such as microwave radios, SDH, DWDM, and IP/MPLS systems, ensuring optimal performance.
  • Regular monitoring of network performance metrics will be part of your duties to guarantee maximum uptime through proactive management and optimization techniques.
  • In the event of network faults, you will troubleshoot and resolve complex transmission issues, minimizing service disruption and maintaining high service standards.
  • You will be responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on all transmission equipment according to a scheduled calendar to enhance longevity and efficiency.
  • Conducting network upgrades and expansions will be a key responsibility, aimed at improving overall capacity and operational efficiency.
  • Collaboration with field installation teams and external vendors during significant deployment projects will be necessary to ensure seamless project execution.
  • You will analyze network performance reports, providing recommendations for strategic improvements that enhance service delivery.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related field from a recognized institution is essential.
  • You should possess a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in transmission network planning, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated technical expertise in microwave transmission systems, fiber optic technologies, and SDH/SONET networks is required.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills are necessary, with the ability to independently diagnose and resolve complex network issues.
  • While not mandatory, professional certifications like CCNA, CCNP, or similar vendor-specific credentials in transmission technologies will be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Ugandan telecommunications regulations and industry standards is preferable, enhancing your ability to operate effectively in the local market.
