About the Role

The Apprentice position at Absa Group in Kampala offers a unique opportunity for individuals eager to start a career in IT infrastructure management. This role is crucial for maintaining the smooth operation of the bank’s technical systems, ensuring that all servers and platforms function optimally. In the first few months, you will be immersed in hands-on training, learning how to install, configure, and troubleshoot both physical and virtual servers under the guidance of experienced professionals. This position plays a pivotal role in supporting the bank’s infrastructure, contributing to its long-standing tradition of reliability and innovation in the financial sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Your primary task will be to provision servers, which includes installing, upgrading, configuring, and troubleshooting servers to meet the needs of various services.
• You will be responsible for scheduling and conducting daily backups for eligible systems, ensuring the integrity and compliance of backup systems are maintained.
• Routine maintenance of servers, workstations, and network devices is essential to guarantee system stability and optimal performance.
• Supporting IT system audits will be part of your role, focusing on infrastructure security, data storage, and identifying potential cybersecurity risks.
• You will monitor resource utilization and performance metrics, planning preventive or corrective actions to uphold high efficiency levels across systems.
• In contributing to security measures, you will be actively involved in implementing access controls and server configuration management protocols.
• Regular monitoring of incidents and trends will be necessary to ensure timely resolution and to recommend improvements to systems and services.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A background in IT or a related field is preferred, ideally supported by relevant certifications or coursework.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential for troubleshooting server and network issues effectively.
• Familiarity with server operating systems, particularly Windows and Linux, will be advantageous for this role.
• Effective communication skills are necessary to work collaboratively with team members and other departments.
• Prior experience or internships in IT infrastructure or support roles will be beneficial but is not mandatory.
