About the Role

The Policy Campaigns Associate position at Worth Rises is a crucial role that supports the organization’s mission to dismantle the prison industry and advocate for economic justice. This role is designed for individuals passionate about grassroots organizing and legislative advocacy. In your first few months, you will engage with various stakeholders, build coalitions, and help execute the policy campaign strategy. Your work will directly contribute to empowering affected communities and promoting systemic change within the criminal legal system.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Director of Policy Campaigns & Government Affairs in implementing the organization’s policy campaign strategy, ensuring alignment with overall goals.
• Support the development of coalitions for policy campaigns by identifying and engaging at least five key partners for each initiative.
• Conduct research and monitor legislative activity, providing timely updates to the team on bill movements and relevant hearings.
• Coordinate logistics for coalition efforts and stakeholder meetings, facilitating communication among diverse groups to strengthen campaign impact.
• Develop and manage outreach systems and contact databases to streamline engagement with community partners and enhance mobilization efforts.
• Implement strategies to elevate the voices of directly impacted individuals, ensuring their leadership and stories are central to campaign actions.
• Prepare advocacy materials such as testimonies, fact sheets, and talking points to support campaign events and direct actions.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree in social sciences, public policy, or a related field is required to provide a foundational understanding of advocacy work.
• At least two years of experience in grassroots organizing or legislative campaigns, demonstrating a commitment to social justice issues.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey messages to stakeholders and community members.
• Proficiency in managing databases and tracking systems, which are essential for monitoring campaign progress and engagement.
• Ability to work collaboratively within a team and across departments, fostering a cooperative environment to achieve shared goals.
