About the Role

The British Council Uganda is seeking an English & School Education Project Officer to support the implementation of key programs that enhance English language proficiency and educational quality in Uganda. This role is crucial in addressing the significant challenges faced by the education sector, particularly in fostering teacher training and improving learning outcomes among students. In the initial months, you will engage in various operational tasks, including financial administration and compliance, while working closely with delivery partners and stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery. Your contributions will help create equitable access to quality education, especially for vulnerable children in refugee-hosting districts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the management of vendor and supplier relationships, ensuring accountability for service delivery in alignment with project deadlines.
  • Prepare and report on the project budgets, carefully tracking expenditures and forecasts to support Programme Managers and the Head of English and School Education.
  • Maintain comprehensive financial records that comply with both internal and external audit standards, ensuring timely processing of vendor payments according to SAP Finance guidelines.
  • Conduct data entry, quality assurance, and basic analysis of monitoring data to produce detailed progress reports for funders and stakeholders.
  • Assist in managing grants administration, including selection, evaluation, and procurement processes, while contributing to events-based program components and training sessions.
  • Promote and implement diversity mainstreaming action plans in collaboration with project or programme managers, ensuring inclusivity in all educational initiatives.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A degree or proven experience in education, English language, or a related field that aligns with the British Council’s portfolio areas.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, with a strong understanding of financial administration and reporting processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to manage relationships with clients, partners, stakeholders, and vendors effectively.
  • Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation methodologies to support project compliance and data management.
  • An awareness of and commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion within the workplace and educational settings.
