About the Role

Nakasero Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented Revenue Assurance Accountant to enhance its finance team in Kampala. This crucial position is designed to safeguard the hospital’s revenue by ensuring accurate billing, efficient claims management, and proactive debt collection. By joining this dynamic team, you will play a vital role in financial sustainability, allowing the hospital to continue providing high-quality healthcare services. Your initial months will involve familiarizing yourself with existing financial processes, collaborating with clinical departments, and undertaking training to master the hospital’s billing systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will supervise daily billing operations, ensuring that all patient services are charged and invoiced accurately within a 24-hour timeframe after service delivery.
  • Your role will include preparing and submitting insurance claims to all major providers, diligently following up on their status and promptly resolving any rejections or discrepancies.
  • Monitoring debt aging reports weekly will be part of your responsibilities, where you will identify overdue accounts and initiate appropriate collection procedures to minimize exposure to bad debts.
  • Monthly reconciliations between the hospital’s financial systems and insurer payments will be conducted by you to ensure that all revenue is properly recorded and accounted for.
  • You will collaborate closely with clinical departments to verify that service documentation supports billing codes, thereby preventing claim denials due to insufficient information.
  • Analyzing payment trends and patient financial characteristics will enable you to develop strategies aimed at improving collection rates and reducing outstanding balances.
  • Lastly, you will maintain strict adherence to hospital financial policies and Ugandan accounting standards, ensuring that all transactions are properly authorized and documented.
  • You will generate weekly revenue reports for hospital management, highlighting key performance indicators and identifying areas that may require immediate attention.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from a recognized university is essential, with strong academic performance reflected in your transcripts.
  • You must hold a full CPA Uganda certification or an equivalent professional accounting qualification, maintaining current membership in good standing.
  • At least three years of progressive experience in accounting roles is required, preferably within healthcare or busy corporate environments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential, including advanced skills in pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and complex financial modeling for data analysis and reporting.
  • Experience using ERP systems, preferably SAP or Oracle, is necessary for managing accounts receivable and general ledger functions.
