About the Role

The Northland School Division is seeking a Temporary Vice Principal for Father R. Perin School, which serves students from kindergarten through grade 9 in the community of Janvier, Alberta. This role is essential in fostering educational success, particularly for Indigenous learners, by integrating cultural perspectives into the learning environment. In the initial months, the successful candidate will immerse themselves in the school’s culture, build relationships with staff and community members, and assess the unique needs of students to promote an inclusive educational atmosphere. This position not only impacts the students’ educational journey but also strengthens community ties and supports local cultural initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• The Vice Principal will be tasked with enhancing educational outcomes by promoting Indigenous language and cultural education within the school’s curriculum.
• Collaboration with the school council and local community groups will be essential to foster a positive school climate that reflects local values and traditions.
• Identifying and pursuing partnerships with local organizations will be a key duty, aimed at developing innovative programs that engage students and encourage their success.
• As an instructional leader, the Vice Principal will guide teachers in implementing high-quality learning experiences that cater to the diverse needs of the student body.
• Active participation in community events will be expected, reinforcing the school’s commitment to being an integral part of the community.
• The Vice Principal will regularly assess and refine educational practices to ensure they meet the Division’s goals and the specific needs of Indigenous students.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Applicants must possess or be eligible for Alberta teaching certification along with a Leadership Quality Standard certificate.
• A Master’s degree in education or a related field is required, or candidates must be willing to complete a Master’s degree within an agreed timeframe.
• At least 5 years of successful teaching experience in rural or Indigenous communities is essential for this leadership role.
• Candidates should demonstrate a proven commitment to promoting literacy and language improvement from an Indigenous perspective.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to effectively liaise with students, staff, and community stakeholders.
