The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking a passionate and highly skilled Climate and Environment Team Leader to spearhead initiatives aimed at enhancing climate resilience among diverse communities in Uganda. This role is crucial as it contributes to the Uganda Refugee Resilience Initiative (URRI), which focuses on fostering inclusive and sustainable development in refugee-affected areas. In the initial months, you will become acquainted with the local context and establish connections with community stakeholders while ensuring the technical quality of environmental activities. Your leadership will help shape strategies that align with local priorities and environmental sustainability goals.
Key Responsibilities
You will oversee the daily management and coordination of the URRI programme to ensure effective operations in Yumbe, Moyo, and Obongi districts.
It will be your responsibility to ensure that all program activities adhere to donor requirements and align with national policies and local development agendas.
Supervising both technical and support staff, you will also manage relationships with local partner organizations to enhance collaborative efforts.
Your role will involve supporting budgeting, financial management, and regular reporting processes to maintain transparency and accountability.
As a representative of the programme, you will attend coordination forums, donor meetings, and engage with various stakeholders to advocate for the project’s initiatives.
You will conduct technical assessments of environmental projects, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and effectively to meet project goals.
Your leadership will extend to planning and implementing strategies for forestry, land restoration, and green livelihoods, focusing on innovative solutions for environmental challenges.
Engaging with local communities, you will facilitate training sessions and workshops to empower them with knowledge on sustainable practices and project objectives.
Requirements & Qualifications
A degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field is essential for this position.
You should possess at least 5 years of demonstrated experience in managing environmental projects, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
Proficiency in project management, including budgeting and reporting, is crucial for ensuring the program’s success.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills will be necessary to effectively collaborate with a variety of stakeholders, including community members and local authorities.
Familiarity with climate change issues, environmental policy, and sustainable development practices will greatly enhance your effectiveness in this role.
