About the Role

The Protection Assistant position at the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in Kampala is crucial for ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable populations affected by conflict and displacement. This role focuses on implementing the Protection from Violence (PfV) portfolio, which aims to provide timely and effective support to individuals in need. In the initial months, you will engage closely with community members, stakeholders, and team members to understand the local context, identify protection needs, and develop strategies for effective case management. Your contributions will directly impact the lives of those facing violence and exploitation, making this a meaningful and rewarding role.

Key Responsibilities

• You will identify and respond to protection cases in a manner that ensures safety and dignity, particularly during Mobile Protection desk operations.
• Timely referral of cases based on assessed needs to relevant stakeholders will be your responsibility, ensuring a functional referral system is in place.
• Support qualitative data collection through various methods such as assessments, key informant interviews, and focus group discussions to uncover community needs and service gaps related to protection from violence.
• Conduct regular field and home visits according to established case management processes and Protection from Violence Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• You will maintain effective working relationships with partner agencies, community leaders, and service providers to enhance collaborative efforts in protection initiatives.
• Address cases identified through feedback mechanisms promptly, ensuring a timely and effective response to reported issues.
• Assist in analyzing PfV trends to inform planning, response strategies, and advocacy efforts within the community.
• Support the development of concept notes and activities related to Protection from Violence to facilitate timely implementation of services.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A minimum of a diploma in social work, community development, or a related field is preferred for this role.
• You should have at least 1-2 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for effectively engaging with diverse stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
• Familiarity with case management processes and protection principles will be advantageous for this position.
