Operations Manager

About the Role

The Operations Manager at Seaboard Overseas and Trading Group plays a pivotal role in overseeing the Matadi site in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This position is vital for ensuring operational excellence, driving efficiency, and maintaining governance standards in a challenging environment. In the initial months, the Operations Manager will assess current operations, establish key performance indicators (KPIs), and build relationships with both local and expatriate teams. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on management, allowing for impactful contributions to the company’s long-term sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

• The Operations Manager will oversee all site operations, including milling, ship discharging, storage, and warehousing, ensuring that each function operates efficiently and effectively.
• Regularly monitor and evaluate the performance against established KPIs, implementing action plans to address any performance gaps identified.
• Maintain the accuracy and integrity of production, inventory, and reporting data, ensuring that all operations align with business objectives.
• Enforce decision-making frameworks and escalation processes that support operational governance and accountability across the organization.
• Build and develop a high-performing management team that fosters collaboration and a culture of respect and psychological safety.
• Lead initiatives aimed at continuous improvement, identifying inefficiencies and optimizing processes to enhance operational performance.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field is required, with a preference for candidates holding an MBA.
• At least 5-7 years of experience in operations management or a similar role, preferably within an expatriate context.
• Strong leadership skills with a track record of managing diverse teams and fostering cross-cultural collaboration.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and a keen understanding of operational performance metrics.
• Proficiency in data analysis tools and software that aid in monitoring and improving operational efficiency.
