Business Development Officer

About the Role

The Business Development Officer plays a pivotal role in driving the growth and sustainability of agro-processing enterprises that primarily support women with disabilities in Uganda. This position is essential for identifying and fostering new business opportunities, particularly in collaboration with various community groups focused on agricultural production. In the initial months, the officer will immerse themselves in community engagement, building relationships with women’s saving groups and farmers’ organizations. They will be actively involved in understanding the local agro-processing landscape and identifying key areas for growth and improvement. This role not only contributes to economic empowerment but also supports social inclusion within the community.

Key Responsibilities

• The Business Development Officer will conduct market research to identify potential growth areas for agro-processing initiatives that benefit women with disabilities.
• They will actively engage with women’s saving groups and local farmers to understand their needs and challenges in agricultural production.
• This role involves developing strategic partnerships with local and regional stakeholders to enhance the visibility and impact of agro-processing enterprises.
• The officer will facilitate training sessions for community groups, equipping them with the skills needed to optimize production and marketing of their products.
• They will prepare detailed reports and presentations on business opportunities, progress, and challenges faced by the community-based groups.
• Regular follow-ups and assessments will be conducted to measure the effectiveness of implemented strategies and to make necessary adjustments.

Requirements & Qualifications

• A degree in Business Administration, Development Studies, or a related field is required for this role.
• Applicants should have at least 3 years of experience in business development or project management, preferably within the agricultural sector.
• Strong communication skills are essential for engaging effectively with community groups and stakeholders.
• Experience in training or capacity-building initiatives will be highly regarded.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software for reporting and analysis is expected.
