About the Role
The Monitoring and Recoveries Officer plays a critical role in the financial landscape of Exim Bank Uganda by ensuring the health of the bank’s credit portfolio. This position is essential for identifying and managing credit risks, facilitating the recovery of delinquent accounts, and minimizing potential credit losses. In the first few months, you will immerse yourself in understanding the bank’s credit policies, engage with clients to assess their financial situations, and develop recovery strategies. The role not only supports the bank’s financial stability but also enhances customer relationships and ensures compliance with regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Your primary duty will be to monitor the bank’s loan portfolio rigorously, ensuring that all accounts, including overdrafts and delinquent accounts, are tracked and regularized promptly.
- Identifying early warning signals for potential defaults will be crucial; you will analyze trends and recommend effective recovery strategies to prevent further credit deterioration.
- Ensuring compliance with approved loan terms and repayment schedules is paramount; you will escalate any breaches and emerging risks to maintain portfolio integrity.
- You will actively engage with customers whose accounts are under scrutiny, utilizing calls, emails, and site visits to assess their business performance and financial health.
- Monitoring the condition and enforceability of collateral will be essential; you will identify deficiencies that may affect the bank’s security interests and take corrective measures.
- Preparing and issuing demand notices and other legal correspondences according to bank policies will be part of your responsibilities, ensuring all documentation is compliant with applicable laws.
- Regularly updating a demand notice tracker will help you manage the status of recovery actions and ensure timely follow-ups on unresolved cases.
- Collaborating with external advocates for legal recovery processes will be crucial; you will monitor their progress and ensure alignment with the bank’s recovery objectives.
- Maintaining detailed records of litigation and recovery proceedings will be necessary, allowing you to provide accurate updates and recommendations to management.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, or a related field is required for this role, providing a solid foundation in financial principles.
- Experience in credit risk management or collections within a banking environment is preferred, ensuring familiarity with the complexities of financial portfolios.
- Strong analytical skills are essential to assess financial data effectively and identify potential risks in the bank’s credit portfolio.
- Proficiency in using financial software and tools for monitoring and reporting will be beneficial in executing your responsibilities efficiently.
