About the Role
The Program Officer position at FHI 360 in Kampala, Uganda, is an essential role for advancing public health initiatives and development programs in the region. This position exists to ensure smooth operational execution by collaborating with technical teams and stakeholders, thus enhancing project outcomes. In the initial months, the successful candidate will engage in hands-on program coordination, develop tracking tools, and assist in the digital transformation of workflows. Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the support provided to technical teams in generating and closing Activity Approval Requests (AARs) and Payment Request Forms (PRFs), ensuring all documentation aligns with project requirements.
- Digitize and automate workflows using DPA and related systems to enhance operational efficiency, thereby improving the monitoring capabilities of project activities.
- Monitor and track the approved EpiC Uganda workplans to ensure timely execution of all technical areas and deliverables, effectively reporting on progress to stakeholders.
- Proactively follow up with department leads and partners on a weekly basis to monitor the progress of activities, deliverables, and timelines, addressing any issues that arise.
- Identify implementation delays or bottlenecks, providing support in troubleshooting and process improvements while collaborating closely with the Program Manager.
- Participate in internal coordination meetings, including procurement and HR discussions, to ensure cross-functional alignment and effective decision-making.
- Establish and maintain effective tracking tools, such as action trackers and deliverable logs, to facilitate real-time reporting and project management.
- Support the development, modification, and management of sub-awards, ensuring coherence between technical scopes, budgets, and monitoring & evaluation frameworks.
Requirements & Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Development Studies, Business Administration, or a related field from a recognized institution is required for this role.
- At least three years of progressive experience in program management, project coordination, or a similar role within an NGO or international development organization is essential.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, with the ability to manage complex data sets effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are necessary for drafting clear reports and engaging professionally with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment is crucial.
- A Master’s degree in Public Health or International Development is desirable and may provide a competitive edge.
- Familiarity with DPA systems, Salesforce, or other project management software will be advantageous in this role.
- Previous experience in sub-award monitoring and performance support within a multi-country program is a plus.
