About the Role

Nakasero Hospital is looking for a meticulous Revenue Assurance Accountant to join its finance team in Kampala. This pivotal role is essential for protecting the hospital’s revenue stream while enabling the provision of high-quality healthcare services. In your first months, you will immerse yourself in the hospital’s financial systems, work closely with various clinical departments, and receive training on the specific billing software utilized by the hospital. Your contributions will directly impact the financial health of the institution, making this position crucial for its operational success.

Key Responsibilities

  • You will oversee daily billing operations, ensuring that all patient services are accurately charged and invoiced within a 24-hour window post-service delivery.
  • Your responsibilities include preparing and submitting insurance claims to major providers, diligently following up on claim statuses and resolving any rejections or discrepancies swiftly.
  • Monitoring weekly debt aging reports will be essential, allowing you to identify overdue accounts and initiate appropriate collection actions to mitigate bad debts.
  • You will conduct monthly reconciliations between the hospital’s financial records and insurer payments, ensuring all revenue is accurately recorded and accounted for.
  • Collaboration with clinical departments to verify that service documentation aligns with billing codes will be a key part of your role, helping to prevent claim denials.
  • By analyzing payment trends and understanding patient financial behaviors, you will develop strategic initiatives to enhance collection rates and lower outstanding balances.
  • You will ensure strict compliance with the hospital’s financial policies and Ugandan accounting standards, guaranteeing proper authorization and documentation for all transactions.
  • Lastly, you will prepare and present weekly revenue reports to hospital management, emphasizing key performance indicators and highlighting areas needing attention.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field from a recognized university is required, with strong academic performance reflected in your transcripts.
  • A full CPA Uganda certification or an equivalent professional accounting qualification is essential, along with current membership in good standing.
  • At least three years of progressive accounting experience is necessary, preferably in healthcare or similar corporate settings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is mandatory, including advanced skills in pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and complex financial modeling for effective data analysis.
  • Experience with ERP systems, especially SAP or Oracle, is crucial for managing accounts receivable and general ledger operations.
