About the Role
The MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit is a leading institution recognized for its commitment to impactful medical research and the development of local research capacities. This role is crucial for ensuring the financial integrity of various research projects and organizational operations. In the first few months, new hires can expect to engage with experienced professionals, gain insights into the financial processes of a research institution, and contribute to the management and reporting of financial data. As part of a dynamic team, you’ll play a key role in supporting the research objectives of the unit by maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with funding guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain accurate financial records for all research projects, ensuring all transactions are properly documented and categorized.
Prepare and submit financial reports to management and relevant stakeholders on a regular basis to provide transparency and accountability.
Assist in the budget preparation process, working closely with project managers to ensure that financial plans align with research objectives.
Monitor expenditures against budgets, providing timely advice on variances and suggesting corrective actions as necessary.
Ensure compliance with all financial policies and procedures, including donor requirements and local regulations.
Collaborate with other departments to provide financial insights that support strategic decision-making and project planning.
Requirements & Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is essential for this role.
At least 3 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance, preferably within a non-profit or research environment.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel is necessary to perform financial analysis and reporting tasks efficiently.
Strong attention to detail and the ability to work with complex data sets while maintaining accuracy.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
