Main Purpose of the Role:

The Credit Controller will be responsible for managing customer credit accounts, reducing credit risks, and ensuring timely recovery of outstanding payments. The role involves monitoring receivables, enforcing credit policies, resolving payment-related issues, and maintaining strong customer relationships while supporting the company’s financial stability.

Key Responsibilities:

Credit Management

• Evaluate the creditworthiness of new and existing customers and provide recommendations.
• Review and recommend appropriate credit limits and payment terms in line with company policies.
• Regularly monitor customer accounts to ensure outstanding balances remain within acceptable levels.

Debt Collection & Payment Recovery

• Follow up on overdue customer accounts and implement effective collection strategies.
• Engage customers to negotiate suitable payment arrangements where necessary.
• Escalate overdue accounts to management for further action.
• Prepare and send customer statements, payment reminders, and related communications.
• Ensure customers receive accurate and timely monthly invoices.

Reporting & Record Management

• Maintain accurate and updated records of all credit transactions.
• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports on debt collection performance and outstanding balances.
• Provide timely and accurate reports on collections and overdue accounts to the Finance team and management.

Customer Relations & Dispute Resolution

• Develop and maintain professional relationships with customers to support effective debt recovery.
• Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies and payment-related concerns.
• Work closely with departments such as Sales, Legal, and Customer Care to resolve customer disputes.

Compliance & Risk Management

• Ensure all credit control activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements.
• Monitor credit risk exposure and recommend measures to reduce financial risks.
• Ensure proper implementation of credit control procedures and processes.

Team Collaboration

• Collaborate with the Finance team to achieve organizational financial objectives.
• Support and guide junior staff and interns in credit control activities.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

• Reduction in overdue customer accounts.
• Achievement of monthly and quarterly collection targets.
• Accuracy and timely submission of financial reports.
• Effective resolution of customer payment disputes.
• Availability and accuracy of accounts receivable records.

Education Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, or CIMA will be an added advantage.

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of two (2) years of relevant work experience.
• Experience in credit control, debt collection, or accounts receivable management.
• Experience in telecommunications, financial services, or a related industry is an added advantage.
• Practical experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
• Strong understanding of credit management procedures and collection techniques.
